Creative Portrait Photography in Budapest

Creative portrait photography built from an idea connected to you.

An atmosphere, story, hobby, outfit, object or visual world can be enough of a starting point. I help turn the idea into something we can photograph, then we plan the location, appearance and visual direction of the series together.

A good choice when you want to build the series around a more personal direction.

We can begin with a style you have liked for a long time, music, a film, hobby, distinctive outfit, personal object or specific location. The idea does not need to be fully developed. It is enough to have something we can connect to.

Creative portrait photography can be understated, cinematic, colourful, dark, playful or completely minimal. The important thing is for the chosen elements to belong together, while you receive the same clear guidance throughout the session as you would during any other portrait shoot.

How creative portrait photography is planned

The idea provides the direction, but you are not left alone during either the planning or the shoot. Together, we develop an approach that works visually, is practical to create and still feels connected to you.

  1. We collect the starting points

We discuss the atmosphere, story or subject and review the references, possible outfits, props, objects and locations.

  2. We plan the practical execution

We choose the elements that genuinely strengthen the idea. We coordinate the location, time of day, clothes, lighting and any other people involved.

  3. We develop the photographs together during the shoot

I guide you throughout with posture, movement and facial expression. Alongside the planned direction, we also pay attention to unexpected ideas that work well at the location.

  4. You choose the photographs to be retouched

After the shoot, you select your favourites. The starting price includes 10 retouched photographs, and you receive one additional retouched image as a gift on the day of the session.

How much does creative portrait photography cost?

Starting price

HUF 45,000

The starting price includes 10 retouched photographs and the creation of a simpler creative direction agreed in advance. The final price depends on possible studio or location hire, the number of locations, props that need to be sourced, technical requirements, other collaborators and the number of finished images.

The preliminary planning is included in the quote. The time spent helping you settle in, giving you direction and refining the idea at the location does not increase the cost by itself.

  • 10 retouched photographs selected by you
  • 1 retouched photograph delivered as a gift on the day of the shoot
  • preliminary consultation to coordinate the idea and practical execution
  • additional retouched photographs available separately
  • bespoke quote when a studio, rented location, props or collaborators are required

Planning the idea

How does an idea become a working portrait series?

An atmosphere or personal subject is enough of a starting point

A creative portrait can be based on a story, music, cinematic world, outfit, hobby, colour, object or location. You do not need to see the finished image clearly in your mind. A few references or a short description are enough for us to understand what attracted you to the idea.

When reviewing references, we primarily look at the light, colours, composition, clothes or feeling that appeal to you. We do not make an exact copy. Instead, we develop an original direction that suits the available location, practical possibilities and you.

Several different references can work, but it helps to explain exactly what you like in each image. This makes it easier to find the shared visual elements rather than trying to build one series from competing ideas.

A few coordinated elements are stronger than too many props

The location, clothes, lighting and props shape the series together. Two or three carefully chosen elements are often enough for a distinctive idea. We do not need a new set or completely different visual world in every photograph.

During planning, we clarify what is already available, what needs to be sourced and what can be replaced with a simpler solution. This allows the expected cost of studio hire, a rented location, props, a makeup artist or another collaborator to be included in the quote in advance.

The technical approach is also adapted to the idea. Coloured light, flash, smoke, projection or more complex editing only becomes part of the series when it genuinely contributes to the photographs.

A creative direction can be incorporated into several types of portrait photography

A more personal idea can also become part of female portrait photography or male portrait photography. Creative portrait photography provides a more precise framework when the idea, visual world or preliminary planning is one of the central elements of the series.

If the photographs also need to work on a website and in regular content, it is worth exploring brand portrait photography. There, the platforms and types of images required form the basis of the planning.

We can also build a creative series around a car, musical instrument, piece of sports equipment or another personal object. If your car and your connection to it will be central to the photographs, car portrait photography may be the more precise starting point.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to arrive with a finished idea?

No. An atmosphere, story, reference, outfit, hobby, object or location is enough of a starting point. We use these to develop a direction that can realistically be created.

What counts as creative portrait photography?

A portrait series built more deliberately around an idea, visual world, personal subject, outfit, prop or distinctive location. The creative direction does not need to be dramatic or extreme.

Can I send reference images?

Yes. References are very helpful. It is worth explaining whether you like the light, colours, clothes, location, composition or overall atmosphere in each image. The aim is not to copy the photographs exactly, but to find the direction of your own series.

Can I bring my own clothes, props or personal objects?

Yes. Clothing, a musical instrument, sports equipment, book, personal object or another prop can become part of the series. We discuss in advance how to incorporate it naturally and consistently.

Might we need a makeup artist or another collaborator?

Depending on the idea, we can involve a makeup artist, hairstylist, stylist or another collaborator. This is not a compulsory part of the session, and we agree on the need and additional cost in advance.

What determines the price of creative portrait photography?

The final price depends on possible studio or location hire, the number of locations, props that need to be sourced, technical requirements, other collaborators and the number of finished images. The time spent helping you settle in and giving you direction does not increase the cost by itself.

Can we work in a studio?

Yes. We can photograph in a studio, with the studio hire listed separately in the quote.

What happens if we change the original idea at the location?

The planned direction is a starting point rather than a rigid rule. If different light, movement or framing works better at the location, we refine the series together.

How many photographs will I receive?

The starting price includes 10 retouched photographs. You choose your favourites after the shoot, and you can order additional retouched images separately.

When will I receive the first photograph?

You receive one retouched photograph as a gift on the day of the shoot. We agree on the delivery time for the complete series in advance.

Will the photographs be retouched?

Yes. You receive the selected photographs fully retouched. The editing brings consistency to the colours, lighting and details, and can also include any more complex creative editing agreed in advance.
